Ceasefire violation along LoC in Kashmir

Pakistan resorted to unprovoked firing along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Nowgam sector of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, the Army said on Wednesday.

The tension along the LoC in J&K has been escalating at a time when there is a standoff between India and China in Ladakh along the LAC.

Army said the latest ceasefire violation took place late on Tuesday when Pakistan fired mortars in Nowgam sector.

“Pakistan initiated an unprovoked ceasefire violation (CFV) along the LoC in Nowgam sector by firing mortars and other weapons. Befitting response was given,” an Army statement in Srinagar said.

Sources said firing is still going on in Nowgam.

There was no immediate report of any loss of life in the cross border shelling so far.

It was the second ceasefire violation along the LoC in Kashmir on Tuesday. On Tuesday morning, Pakistan had fired mortars in Tangdhar sector of Kupwara.

While most of the ceasefire violations have been occurring on the LoC in Rajouri and Poonch districts in the Jammu division, this year the LoC in Kashmir has been witnessing frequent such violations. Four civilians and two soldiers were killed in different ceasefire violations on LoC in North Kashmir since January this year. The latest causality was a 40-year-old woman from Uri.
