Four terrorists were killed in an ongoing encounter in Pinjora area of Shopian district on Monday. Police and security forces are carrying out the operation, Jammu and Kashmir police said. The encounter started in the early hours of Monday and the operation is still underway, officials said. Three jawans are injured during the operation.
“A joint operation was launched in the early hours today on intelligence input by JK Police. Cordon was laid and contact was established with the terrorists. Firefight ensued. Four terrorists have been eliminated. A joint operation is in progress,” Army officials told Times Now.
“Encounter has started at Pinjora village of Shopian district of South Kashmir Police and security forces are on the job,” J-K Police said earlier in the morning.
It is believed that a group of four terrorists belonging to a joint group of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) and Jaish e Mohammad (JeM) is trapped in the area. The four terrorists are hiding in a small village in the area and contact has been established with the hiding terrorists.
Meanwhile, Pakistan violated ceasefire along Line of Control in Keran and Rampur sectors of Kupwara and Baramula districts on Sunday.
Second encounter in 24 hours: Five terrorists were killed on Sunday
This is the second encounter within a span of 24 hours in the Shopian area of the Kashmir Valley. On Sunday, a major operation in Shopian resulted in neutralising five Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists, including a top commander of the banned outfit. The security forces launched an operation based on specific inputs regarding the presence of terrorists in the area. The militants opened fire and in the resulting exchange that ensued, five dreaded terrorists were killed.
