Srinagar, May 23 (UNI) One medico was among 80 persons, including 59 from Kashmir and 21 from Jammu, who tested positive for COVID-19 on Saturday, taking the total number of infected people in the Union Territory of J&K to 1569.
Meanwhile, the death toll due to the infection has risen to 21 with a 55-year-old woman from Kashmir dying due to COVID-19 in separate hospitals on Saturday in J&K, where 54 positive patients were discharged after being treated successfully.
In this first six days of this week, J&K has recorded 386 new COVID-19 cases.
An official on Saturday said that 59 more people tested positive for Coronavirus in Kashmir division while 21 new cases were reported from Jammu. “Kupwara recorded the highest number of 36 new COVID-19 cases followed by Ramban with 14 cases,” he said, adding six persons tested positive for the infection in Anantnag.
“Kulgam registered five new COVID-19 cases,” he said, adding Baramulla, Pulwama and Jammu recorded four new cases.
He said three persons tested positive in the summer capital, Srinagar, adding Bandipora, Kathua, Kishtwar and Poonch recorded one case each.
With 80 new cases, he said the total number of infected persons in J&K has risen to 1569. “Out of these, 1330 are in Kashmir and 239 are in Jammu,” he said.
He said the total active positive cases in the UT stand at 744, including 609 from Kashmir and 165 from Jammu.
He said 54 COVID-19 patients from J&K were discharged on Saturday after being treated successfully. “As many as 774 positive patients were treated and discharged successfully so far,” he said.
Last week, 389 new COVID-10 cases, mostly of them from Kashmir, were tested positive for the infection in J&K. One sixty people were tested positive for COVID-19 in J&K between May 4 to May 10. As many as 178 new people, including 174 from Kashmir and four from Jammu, tested for the virus between 27 April and May 3. About 168 people were tested positive for the infection April 20 to April 26.
As many as 118 people, including 111 from Kashmir and seven from Jammu, were tested positive for COVID-19 between April 13 and April 19. Meanwhile, 138 people, mostly from Kashmir, were tested positive for COVID-19 in J&K between April 6 and April 12. Thirty-three new positive cases, including 28 from Kashmir and three from Jammu, were reported on April 4 and April 5, making it one of the highest jumps in the COVID-19 infected persons in J&K.
With the death of the Anantnag residence on Saturday, 10 people have death due to COVID-19 in seven days in the valley.
