3 patients die due to COVID-19, death toll rises to 16 in J&K

Three persons, including an elderly man and two women, died on Monday in a hospital due to COVID-19 in Kashmir valley, taking the death toll due to the infection in the Union Territory of J&K to 16.

With these, five people have death due to COVID-19 in less than 72 hours and seven in eight days in J&K. Over four dozen policemen and five doctors were among 106 people, including 94 from Kashmir and 12 from Jammu, who tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday, taking the total number of infected people in the Union Territory of J&K to 1289.

Official sources said that three elderly persons died due to COVID-19 in Chest Disease hospital, Srinagar, on Monday.

 

Giving details, they said a 75-year-old woman, who was tested positive for COVID-19, died at Chest Disease hospital, Srinagar on Monday evening. “The patient, a resident of Kokerag, was suffering from cancer,” they said.

 

They said a 65-year-old woman, who was tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday morning, died in Chest Disease hospital this afternoon. “The woman, a resident of Kulgam, who was admitted to SHMS hospital for Sub Dural Haemorrhage (SDH), tested positive for COVID-19 this morning,” they said.

They said following the positive result, the woman was taken to CD hospital, where she suffered a major heart attack and died.

Earlier in the day, a 75-year-old man, a resident of Kokernag in Anantnag, died due to COVID-19. “A COVID-19 patient, whose sample tested negative during the last two times, was again tested positive for the infection after he died in Chest Disease hospital, Srinagar, on Monday,” they said.

“A Kokernag resident, who was in his 70s, had tested negative twice at CD hospital, where he was admitted after he tested positive for the infection earlier this month,” they said.

They said the patient was shifted to SHMS hospital for an emergency procedure — tracheostomy that involves creating an opening in the neck in order to place a tube into a person’s windpipe. “The patient was again tested for COVID-19 and was shifted to CD hospital,” he said.

However, they said the patient, who was continuously on ventilator from last eight days, died in CD hospital on Monday. “The patient had acute Pneumonia,” they added.

With the death of an elderly man and a woman, causality due to COVID-19 in Anantnag has risen to three while Kulgam registered first death on Monday. The worst affected district in terms of mortality rate is Srinagar, where five people have lost their lives to the infection so far.

A 29-year-old woman, a resident of Habba Kadal in the city, died at Chest Disease hospital, Srinagar, at around 1600 hrs on Sunday. Five doctors, including four of them who treated 29-year-old woman patient, tested positive for COVID-19 in the summer capital, Srinagar on Monday.

An elderly man, who died in a hospital in the summer capital, Srinagar on Saturday, tested positive for COVID-19. Another elderly man had died on Wednesday in Jammu due to COVID-19.

Earlier this week, an elderly man died on Monday due to Coronavirus in Kashmir valley. The death of the elderly man had come just days after his son became the youngest victim of the infection in J&K.

J&K recorded first death due to COVID-19 on March 25, when a 65-year-old man from Hyderpora died due to the infection at Chest Disease Hospital. Then, on March 29, a 50-year-old man, a resident of Tangmarg, passed away at CD hospital.

Earlier last month, a 54-year-old Bandipora resident, who was tested positive for the infection, died at SMHS hospital. Later on April 8, a 61-year-old woman from Udhampur died at Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu. A 70-year-old patient died on April 17 due to Coronavirus in Kashmir valley. An elderly man, a resident of Baramulla, on April 18 died due to Coronavirus in Kashmir valley. A pregnant woman, who died at a hospital in Anantnag on Saturday, tested positive on April 26. An 80-year-old woman died in a hospital in Srinagar on April 28 due to the infection.
