Jammu and Kashmir’s overall tally of COVID-19 cases has surpassed 1000-mark with 30 more people, including 21 from Kashmir and nine from Jammu, testing positive for the infection on Friday.
With this, as many as 219 new COVID-10 cases, mostly of them from Kashmir, were recorded in the first five days of this week.
Meanwhile, 28 COVID-19 positive patients were on Friday discharged after being treated successfully in J&K, where the death toll due to the infection has risen to 11 with a 70-year-old man testing positive for the infection after his death in Jammu on Wednesday.
An official on Friday said that 21 more people tested positive for Coronavirus in Kashmir division while nine new cases were reported from Jammu. “Srinagar recorded the highest number of 11 new COVID-19 cases followed by Baramulla with six cases,” he said, adding four people tested positive for the infection in Kathua in Jammu.
He said two persons each were tested positive for COVID-19 in Kupwara in Kashmir and Ramban in Jammu. “Bandipora, Pulwama, Jammu, Udhampur and Rajouri witnessed one case each,” he added.
With 30 new cases, he said the total number of infected persons in J&K has risen to 1013. “Out of these, 903 are in Kashmir and 110 are in Jammu,” he said.
He said the total active positive cases in the UT stand at 489, including 438 from Kashmir and 51 from Jammu.
He said 28 COVID-19 patients from J&K were discharged on Friday after being treated successfully. “As many as 513 positive patients were treated and discharged successfully so far,” he said.
Last week, 160 people were tested positive for COVID-19 in J&K. As many as 178 new people, including 174 from Kashmir and four from Jammu, tested for the virus between 27 April and May 3. An alarming number of 168 people were tested positive for the infection April 20 to April 26. As many as 118 people, including 111 from Kashmir and seven from Jammu, were tested positive for COVID-19 between April 13 and April 19. Meanwhile, 138 people, mostly from Kashmir, were tested positive for COVID-19 in J&K between April 6 and April 12. Thirty-three new positive cases, including 28 from Kashmir and three from Jammu, were reported on April 4 and April 5, making it one of the highest jumps in the COVID-19 infected persons in J&K.
The death toll due to the infection has surged to 11 with an elderly man dying on Wednesday in Jammu. The latest fatality comes just two days after an elderly man died on Monday due to Coronavirus in Kashmir valley. The death of the elderly man comes just days after his son became the youngest victim of the infection in J&K.
J&K recorded first death due to COVID-19 on March 25, when a 65-year-old man from Hyderpora died due to the infection at Chest Disease Hospital. Then, on March 29, a 50-year-old man, a resident of Tangmarg, passed away at CD hospital.
Earlier last month, a 54-year-old Bandipora resident, who was tested positive for the infection, died at SMHS hospital. Later on April 8, a 61-year-old woman from Udhampur died at Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu. A 70-year-old patient died on April 17 due to Coronavirus in Kashmir valley. An elderly man, a resident of Baramulla, on April 18 died due to Coronavirus in Kashmir valley. A pregnant woman, who died at a hospital in Anantnag on Saturday, tested positive on April 26. An 80-year-old woman died in a hospital in Srinagar on April 28 due to the infection.
