Former Member Legislative Council (MLC), Ch. Vikram Randhawa, has demanded a special relief package for the autorickshaw and taxi drivers of Jammu to compensate them for the losses incurred upon them following lockdown announced by the government to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus.
Randhawa said that tourism is the backbone of economy of Jammu and Kashmir and thousands of youth get employment in various shapes related to tourism. Among these auto and taxi drivers are directly connected with the tourism industry who are facing many hardships following lockdown. He said that many of the auto drivers who are also owners have borrowed loan from banks and feed their families from the daily earnings. He said that similar is the condition of the taxi drivers and owners. He urged upon the Central government to provide adequate funds to compensate this lot so that they may meet the both ends of the life.
Randhawa also distributed ration and masks among the poor and the needy people of Dhunni Chand Mohhalla in Gandhi Nagar assembly segment. While distributing ration and masks among the poor Randhawa urged upon them to maintain proper social distancing and hygiene to prevent the infection of the coronavirus which has claimed around 3 lakh lives globally. He said that the people have to learn new etiquettes to live with coronavirus until and unless vaccine is recovered. He hailed the steps taken by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to contain the spread of the strain in India. He said that it was because of these precautionary measures the condition of India is far better than other nations of the world.
