2 JeM associates arrested in Budgam; incriminating materials recovered

Police on Sunday claimed to have arrested two Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) militant associates and recovered incriminating materials, including cipher code sheet, from them in central Kashmir district of Budgam.

A senior police official told UNI that following specific information, a joint checkpoint of Special Operations Group (SOG) of J&K Police, 53 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and 181 battalion of CRPF was established at Chadoora in Budgam on Friday.

He said a vehicle was intercepted at the checkpoint and during checking security forces recovered incriminating material — including JeM posters, some cash and a cipher code sheet. “Two people onboard the vehicle, identified as Mohammad Lateef Koka, a resident of Zenipoora, and Sahil Manzoor Waza, a resident of Wathoora, were immediately taken into custody,” he said.

He said the accused are involved in providing shelter and logistic support to JeM militants. “A case Fir no: 71/2020 has been registered under relevant provisions of UAPA and further investigation has been taken up,” he added.

Sources said that more arrests could happen in the coming days.
