COVID-19 Pandemic : IGP Jammu chairs officers meeting; reviews preparedness

Inspector General of Police Jammu Zone, Jammu Sh.  Mukesh Singh-IPS, convened a meeting through video conference with Range DIsG and District SSsP of Jammu to take stock of the measures taken to contain the spread of COVID -19 and other general issues of Jammu Zone.

The meeting was attended by Range DIsG and District SSsP of Jammu Zone through video conference whereas DIG JSK Range, SSP Jammu, SSP PCR, Jammu and SP Ops, Jammu attended the meeting in person from the office of IGP Jammu.

        During meeting a detailed briefing was given one by one by Range DIsG and District SSsP of Jammu Zone with regard to measures being taken to prevent spread of Corona virus in their respective districts.  They also briefed IGP Jammu Zone about the measuring being taken by Police at various quarantine / Isolation centers established by the Civil Administration as well as Police Department and facilities being provided to people kept in the said centers.

       IGP Jammu, Shri Mukesh Singh –IPS, commended the role of Police officers/jawans for working round the clock (24X7) in assisting the Civil Administration and also Health Department in fighting the COVID-19 during lockdown in order to contain its spread. For the work done by the police, a large number of policemen in each district have been rewarded by the ZPHQ

Besides, a detailed analysis of arrangements for movement of stranded labour and students as well as essential commodities from other states to the UT of Jammu and Kashmir was also discussed. The districts SSsP were directed to ensure that adequate help is provided to the civil administration so that persons coming from Kashmir Valley and outside the UT are properly sampled/quarantined.

The district SSsP were advised to liaise with DMs concerned to ensure smooth movement of nomad (Gujjar/Bakarwal) from Jammu province to Kashmir valley and also ensure that Dehra head must obtain proper permission from Tehsildar/ Sheep Husbandry department before proceeding towards Kashmir valley as per past practice .

In view of recent killing of HM Commander, Riyaz Naikoo during encounter in Pulwama District of Kashmir valley, a detailed briefing was given to the district SSsP especially district Doda, Kishtwar, Ramban, Rajouri and Poonch to keep close watch over the activities of surrendered/released terrorists/OGWs/Pak Returnees. They were also briefed to focus on anti militancy operation especially in the areas connected with Kashmir valley so that ANEs may not able to sneak to Jammu region and indulge in any sabotage act.

The district SSsP put up various issues pertaining to the civil administration.  Some of the important issues are:-

         Issue of keeping migrant labour near the industries at Samba/Bari Brahmana so that the industrial activity does not suffer.

    Issue of migrant labour wanting to proceed to their native place and the fact that a large number have already reached Jammu.

       Issue of a large number of communal posts appearing on social media from all communities having potential to disturb peace.
