To ensure uninterrupted harvesting of crops, Government has granted some relaxation in the nationwide lockdown for activities related to agriculture/farming and allied activities with a view to address problems being faced by the farming community. The farmers in Jammu and Kashmir too are resuming their farming activities amid lockdown with all the preventive measures suggested by the Government like maintaining social distance, using masks, washing hands regularly and if available making regular use of sanitizers.Almost all the villages of Jammu and Kashmir have started sowing seeds and harvesting their crops for this season and are grateful to the government for these concessions amid lockdown. Darshan Singh of village Raipur, Barjala Satwari said that the villagers are thankful to the government for these concessions during lockdown and will try our level best to ensure all the precautionary measures to be adopted during farming activities. Another farmer Raj Kumar from village Adlehar in Tehsil Arnia, Jammu said that without these relaxations, the farmers would not have been able to make their livelihood especially after the lockdown if not allowed to resume agricultural activities in this season. The villages in Kashmir especially those engaged in horticulture sector have resumed spraying fungicides to the apple crop and are expecting a bumper crop this year if the weather remains favorable. Mohamad Shaban, of Anantnag said that these relaxations to the farmers are need of the hour or otherwise this sector too would have had a set back amid lockdown.
