Militant killed in Baramulla shootout

A militant was killed in a brief shootout at Shutloo village in Rafiabad area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Friday afternoon, reports said.

Report said that a joint team of 32 RR and SOG intercepted the militants at a naka set up in Shutloo village after getting specific inputs about the movement of militants.

After being intercepted, the exchange of fire took place between the militants and the security forces, he said. “In the exchange of gunfire, one militant was killed so far and searches in the area are still going on,” he said.

The slain militant was reportedly identified as Mudasir Ahmad Bhat, a local resident, who had joined militancy only a week ago.

Bhat was a Hafiz (who knows Quran by heart) and used to lead prayers at a mosque in Sopore before going missing last week along with four other youths in Baramulla district.

The sopore police had earlier issued a press release seeking whereabouts of the five missing youth, including Bhat.
