Advisor to Lt Governor, K K Sharma today stressed on the need for preservation and propagation of intrinsic and positive values of Jammu and Kashmir’s rich culture for strengthening the harmonious living and mutual co-existence.
The Advisor was speaking at the “Herat Millan” organized by the Youth All India Kashmiri Samaj (YAIKS), here today.
Vice Chancellor, Prof. Manoj Dhar, former Ministers Priya Sethi; Ghulam Hassan Mir; former DGP Kuldeep Khuda; Relief Commissioner, Shri R K Bhat; Dr K N Pandita, President Jammu Bar Association; Advocate Abhinav Sharma; Sr. Advocate B S Salathia; Prof P N Trisal; Justice B L Saraf, S K Koul, P L Koul Badgami, K K Khosa, Dr. Sushil Wattal, Pran Pandit and Kuldep Pandita were the guests of honour besides senior politician Yudhvir Sethi; scores of academicians, intellectuals, office bearers of YAIKS and people from different walks of life attended the event.
The Advisor, while referring to the rich culture of Kashmir, said that it is replete with the literature and the way of life shown by saints and seers like Lalded, Nundreshi and many others, who have immensely contributed to the concept of mutual brotherhood and co-existence throughout centuries. The need of the hour is to follow these steadfastly for a life full of positivity and care towards fellow human beings, he added.
While highlighting the importance of celebrating Herat (Shivratri), the Advisor said that it is one of the most important religious festivals of the valley, celebrated by all communities over the ages and forms one of the iconic parameters of its socio-cultural milieu. He said that celebration of these festivities by every section of society contributes largely to the idea of mutual co existence, the hallmark of Kashmiri society.
Responding to the demands projected by the YAIKS, the Advisor said that same would be addressed by involving all the stakeholders to achieve an agreeable settlement.
President YAIKS, R K Bhat also spoke on the occasion and highlighted the problems being faced by the Kashmiri Pandit youth.
A rich cultural programme was also presented on the occasion in which prominent singers Ravi Bhan and Gulzar Ganai enthralled the audience.
