At least three terrorists were killed during an encounter with police in Jammu and Kashmir in the wee hours on Friday. A gunfight between the police and the terrorists had erupted after a group of terrorists opened fire at cops, at Nagrota toll plaza on Jammu outskirts. The incident was reported after cops intercepted a Srinagar-bound truck at the toll plaza on Jammu-Srinagar highway. A policeman was also injured in the gunfight.
Two explosions were also heard near the Nagrota toll plaza where the encounter between terrorists and security forces broke out. The operation, reportedly, is still underway. One of the terrorists is still believed to be trapped in the area.
Four weapons and some ammunition and explosives have been recovered from the spot. The incident occurred at nearly 5 am on Friday, when the police team stopped a Srinagar-bound truck for checking near the toll plaza in Ban area of Nagrota.
Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbagh Singh said 3-4 terrorists were going to Srinagar when they were intercepted by the police team at the toll plaza.
The DGP said the terrorists were part of a freshly infiltrated group, who have entered this side from the International Border in Hiragnagar in Kathua district and were on their way to Kashmir Valley.
The area was cordoned off following the encounter and the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway has been closed for traffic in view of civilian security.
Authorities have also ordered closure of schools in Nagrota as a precautionary measure.
Speaking on the incident, DGP J&K Police, Dilbagh Singh said, “these terrorists were a newly infiltrated group and were on their way to Srinagar. It is suspected that they infiltrated from Kathua, Hiranagar border. Investigation is on.”
