GGF observes 73rd martyrdom of Mahatma Gandhi in J&K

Gandhi Global Family J&K paid rich tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on his 73rd martyrdom day at Dewan-E-Aam, Mubarak Mandi, Jammu where thousands of people from all walks of life participated. Director General of Police J&K Mr Dilbag Singh, Divisional Commissioner Jammu Mr Sanjeev Verma, senior officials of  Para Military Forces, senior bureaucrats, former ministers, leaders of various political parties, Govt officials, Principals of various colleges & schools,  NGOs, eminent Journalists, students and general public participated in huge numbers enthusiastically. The programme started with a symposium on topic – Mahatma 150 where students from 6 colleges & more than 50 govt & private schools spoke on the life & legacy of Mahatma Gandhi. Later several students sang favourite bhajans of Bapu.

On the occasion, The Gandhi Global Family J&K Executive Committee presented Mahatma Gandhi Seva Medal to Santoor Maestro & Bollywood Music Composer Mr Abhay Rustum Sopori for this contribution in promoting classical music in the country in general and in J&K in particular. Earlier Chief Conservator of Forests Mr Sameer Bhatia was honoured with GGF Souvenir  by DGP J&K Mr Dilbag Singh for his contribution in protection of environment by planting lakhs of saplings in between 1992 to 2019.

In his address, President Gandhi Global Family J&K Padmashri Dr S P Varma informed the gathering that similar programs were being conducted on the same day by all the international, national and local units of the organisation. He encouraged youth to imbibe the ideology of Mahatma Gandhi in their daily life. Later two minutes of silence & oath ceremony was conducted by Ms Pooja Gupta of Lawrence Public School where thousands of students pledged to make Mahatma Gandhi’s dream of modern India, a reality.

Major General (Rtd) Goverdhan Singh Jamwal, Advisor Gandhi Global Family J&K recalled his meeting with Mahatma Gandhi way back in 1947 in Kashmir while he was serving in Indian Army as Second Lieutenant. He advised youth to always speak the truth and make India an exemplary nation. Lt General (Rtd) Rakesh Sharma, GGF Advisor, encouraged the members of Gandhi Global Family J&k by highlighting their roles towards promoting communal harmony & peace in the conflict regions of the country.

On the occasion, DGP J&K Mr Dilbag Singh termed Mahatma Gandhi as the greatest messenger of peace on this planet. He applauded the contributions of Mahatma Gandhi in promoting peace in the South Asia.  He further emphasised on the role of our future generations and public at large in making Jammu & Kashmir as a peace loving region of this great nation by following his ideology.

Divisional Commissioner Jammu Mr Sanjeev Verma appreciated the role of Gandhi Global Family in consistently promoting the Gandhian values from more than thirty years. While complementing Gandhi Global Family he cited Mahatma Gandhi’s visit to J&K in 1947 where he experienced Ray of Hope in the region while whole subcontinent was burning. The same ray of hope is visible in Dewan-E-Aam where people from diverse cultures, religions and regions have come together voluntarily remembering the Mahatma. He further expressed that together we can bring the much needed change in our society.

Ex-MLA Mr Rajesh Gupta & Ex-Minister G M Saroori also addressed the crowd and encouraged the masses to adopt Gandhian ideology as a way of life. Mr Ram Mohan Rai National General Secretary  & Mr Ashok Kapoor National Spokesperson Gandhi Global Family attending the programme as special observers from New Delhi.

The programme was conducted under the patronship of Wg.Cdr M M Joshi. The nodal officer for his programme was the Chief Education Officer Jammu Mr Kulbir Singh while the master of ceremony was Mr Robin Gill.  Vote of thanks was presented by Mr Rajesh Sharma Chairman Organising Committee of Gandhi Global Family. He thanked all the stakeholders and participants at large.
