Mission Director, Mid Day Meal, Dr. Arun Manhas, today said the administration is mulling to establish ‘School Nutrition Gardens’ in all government-run schools of Jammu and Kashmir.
“The vegetables grown in these gardens will be used in preparation of Mid Day Meals which are served to the students in the schools under MDM Scheme,” Dr Manhas said.
The Mission Director made these remarks during a cooking competition that was held at Govt. Higher Secondary School, Vijaypur in Samba District today.
Dr Manhas said the idea behind the competition was to promote community participation and to motivate and inspire the cooks-cum-helpers by incentivizing their recipes.
He emphasised the need to organize such cooking competition in all the education zones of UT of J&K in order to boost the morale and instil confidence among cook-cum-helpers engaged under Mid Day Meal Scheme.
At least 10 cooks-cum-helpers from different Education zones of District Samba engaged by schools under Mid Day Meal Scheme participated in the competition in which emphasis was laid on preparing locally available food items as per culturally accepted habits.
The panel of judges was headed by Fateh Singh, Principal HSS Vijaypur.
Shiv Devi of Vijaypur Zone, Shalu and Anju of Samba Zone were adjudged as Ist, 2nd and 3rd winners respectively. They were felicitated in presence of Dr Manhas, Mission Director, Mid Day Meal Scheme.
