Union Minister for Jal Shakti, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat today said that there is a need to create “Water Management Committees” which will help to manage, harvest and distribute water in efficient manner.
The Minister said this while addressing a mammoth gathering at Barnoti and Hiranagar blocks of Kathua district during his public outreach campaign.
While addressing the gathering, the Minister said that the Government of India launches all the welfare schemes for the benefit of the poor. “Ayushman Bharat, Ujjawala, PMSYMS, Saubhagya beside other schemes are designed in such a way that maximum benefit can be percolated down to the persons living in the fringes of our society”, the Minister added.
Shekhawat said water is a scarce commodity and to mitigate this problem throughout the country, the Prime Minister has announced – Jal Jeevan Mission which will provide tap-water to every household in the country by 2024. However, he said JK will achieve the target of complete piped water by 2021.
The Minister also highlighted the benefits of upcoming projects for Kathua district viz. Shahpur Kandi and Ujh dam project through which water for irrigation to farmers and drinking water to every household will be provided.
Earlier, the Minister inaugurated CFC, renovated pond, roads under PMGSY, compound walls, class room, ground and shelter shed for border migrants through electronic mode in Barnoti and Hiranagar blocks.
DC Kathua, O P Bhagat presented block and district profile before the Minister and progress achieved by different sectors in implementation of various schemes.
Commissioner State Projects, GoI, S P Bohra; Commissioner Secretary, PHE, I&FC Department, Ajit Kumar Sahu; ASP, Ramnish Gupta; ADC Kathua, Atul Gupta; ACD, Sukhpal Singh, Former MLA Doda, Shakti Parihar and other district and sectoral officers were present during the function.
