Principal Secretary, Animal & Sheep Husbandry, Fisheries and Transport Department, Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon, today inaugurated health check up cum orientation programme for drivers organized by Motor Vehicle Department at Samba.
Among others Transport Commissioner, Dr Owais Ahmed, District Development Commissioner Samba Rohit Khajuria , S.S.P Samba Shakti Pathak, Regional Transport Officer, Jammu, Danater Singh were present on the occasion.
During the camp, about 250 drivers from various Transport Unions and schools were provided free eye, blood sugar and blood pressure check up by medical team of Health Department and Rotary club Udhampur.
Later, technical and first aid demonstration was performed by Tata Motors, CEAT Tyres and medical team respectively.
While interacting with the participants, Dr Asgar Samoon emphasized upon the drivers to remain fit, alert and vigilant on roads. He said drivers being important stakeholder in ensuring road safety should be updated with latest technologies for maintenance of their vehicles from time to time.
Enumerating various upcoming transport department initiatives, Dr Asgar Samoon congratulated Samba district inhabitants for establishing first state-of-art I.C.C. Automotive Vehicle Testing Centre which would start functioning during the next financial year.
Transport Commissioner assured that S.R.T.C booking counters would be made fully functional at an earliest besides S.R.T.C bus service would be started at border route on priority basis.
District Development Commissioner assured monetary assistance to the families of N.O.K of two accident victims whose only bread earner lost their lives in recent hit and run cases. He also emphasized upon drivers to ensure full functioning of new bus stand Samba.
Regional Transport Officer Jammu informed the participants about various departmental initiatives to benefit driver fraternity.
Later, the dignitaries distributed two sewing machines sponsored by Border Road Mini Bus Union Samba among N.O.K of two accident victims.
On the occasion, Dr Asgar Samoon also kick-started signature campaign for road safety.
