Pakistani troops on Wednesday violated ceasefire and resorted to indiscriminate shelling and firing in Uri sector in this north Kashmir district, official sources said. They said people were busy in their daily routine work when Pak troops suddenly resorted to firing and shelling, targeting civilian areas and forward posts at the Line of Control (LoC) in Hajipeer sector in Uri at 0900 hrs.
Pak troops violated 2003 ceasefire after silence for about one month. People in about six border villages, including Churanda and Batkote in Hajipeer sector, immediately rushed for shelter, they said adding Indian troops also retaliated and the exchange continued for several hours.
